Chandy and Anne Prasad passed away peacefully in their home on Saturday, July 26, 2025. They are survived by their daughters, Sandhya George Castro and Kavya George, their son-in-law, Don Castro, and their grandson, Ekani Castro.
Chandy was born in Madras State, India on June 27, 1949. He belonged to the Vakkayil Family of Kumarakom under the umbrella of the Ummacheril Family. He is preceded in death by his father, V.T. Chandy, his mother, Leila Chandy, his stepmother, Pynkily Chandy, and his brother, C.T. Modi. He is also survived by his siblings, Lalit (husband, Babu), Roy (wife, Deepa), and Elizabeth (husband, Monichen). He graduated with a degree in electrical engineering from M.A. College of Engineering in Kothamangalam. He was retired after a long career as an electrical engineer with the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Anne was born on January 1, 1952, in Chennai, India. She received her degree in Home Science from Women’s Christian College in Chennai. She is preceded in death by her father, P.T. Verghese, her mother, Mary Verghese, and her brother, Thomas Verghese (and his wife, Brenda). She is also survived by her siblings, Koshy, Cherian, Abraham (wife, Anila), Mathew, and Susan (husband, George). She was retired after a career with the State of Pennsylvania as a tax clerk with the Department of Revenue.
Chandy and Anne were wed on October 18, 1976, in Kottayam, Cheriapally, India, and enjoyed almost 50 years of marriage. They loved spending time with their family and delighted in the company of their grandson. They survived many trials throughout their lives through their faith in God and the support of their extended families. They were both devout Christians and devoted members of St. Peter’s Syriac Orthodox Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Chandy, Anne, and their children were one of the first families in the church’s congregation, and Chandy served as the church secretary.
Their passing together continues their many years by each other’s side, no longer in this world but in the next.
Funeral services will take place on Friday, August 8, 2025, starting at 5pm, and Saturday, August 9, 2025, starting at 8:30am, at St. Peter’s Syriac Orthodox Church at 9946 Haldeman Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19115. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Peter’s Syriac Orthodox Cathedral.
