Mary has been preparing for this day for some time. She had her dress picked out and in the closet for years — she even wrote her story to share. These are her words: With the loss of her parents at the age of nine, she was raised by Aunt Hannah and Uncle Roy Greener and gained five sisters; Dorothy, Charlotte, Jerry, Peggy, and Joan, who accepted her as on of them. She went on to work for the Navy Department during the Big War years and completed business school at Strayer in the evenings, at which time she became employees by MA Bell. After meeting the love of her life Ted at the USO dance in Philadelphia. They married on November 26, 1949, and had a loving marriage for 54 years — she said that Ted let Mary be Mary and in doing so he found she loved people and life in general. In 1951 they purchased a piece of land in Bensalem and built a dream house with no knowledge of building a home. She was very proud to see that all of her children were born, christened and married in this house. She enjoyed hosting holidays and parties, oh so many parties and great times. Mary loved to cook and entertain their many friends. In the words of Mary “The More the Merrier!” She was employed by the telephone company for 35 years. During that time she touched many people’s lives. She enjoyed running bus trips, organizing luncheons, holiday parties, and the Avalon and Wildwood trips — oh the stories! She was president of Jenkintown Council of Pioneers, as well as Committee Service Chairperson for 20 years. In her earlier years, she was very active with Catholic Daughter at Our Lady of Grace. Later on, she established her own chapter for the Red Hatters group called Party Hardy — Keeping busy was a way of life for Mary Mary was the life of the party as many of you know. Her blue eyes and bright smile would light up a room. Everyone who remembers her is asked to celebrate Mary’s life by raising a glass of their favorite drink in memory would be quite appropriate. Cheers to Mary!
Due to recent circumstances, interment will be private. A celebration of life befitting Mary will be scheduled at a later date at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be sent to Companions of St. Anthony 12300 Folly Quarter Rd. Ellicott, MD 21042-1416
