December 29, 1946 - March 4, 2022

Burial Date March 26, 2022

Michael Joseph Derer after many years of battling different health conditions lost his final battle on 3/4/2022 and passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

Born 12/29/1946 to the late Michael Derer and Eleanor (Litchner) Derer of Philadelphia, PA Michael would be the oldest of 4 children. The late Robert Derer (Martin Donahoe), Eleanor(Derer) Miller (Gerald), and his best friend and youngest brother Richard Derer (Michelle).

He graduated in 1964 from Father Judge High school and enlisted in the United States Navy during the Vietnam war. After his honorable discharge Michael would become a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service until his early retirement in 1984 due to medical challenges.

On 12/8/1973, Michael married the love of his life and best friend Janet (Pankrez) Derer the daughter of the late George Pankrez and Ruby (Lambert) Pankrez and sister of William Pankrez. Together they would raise three beautiful daughters. The late Lara (Derer) Connell (Patrick), Janet (Derer) Baker (Kevin), and Kristine (Derer) Lundahl (Erik). Later in life they would welcome their adopted daughter Patti Shedaker (Dennis Dailey) who’s love and support as a daughter and sister is second to none.

Michael always worked multiple jobs to support his family including his final career with Bucks County Candy and Tobacco which he permanently retired from in 2005.

One of Michael’s proudest moments in life was becoming a grandfather (PopPop) in 1995 to Brianna Lynn Culligan-Derer (Hector Ginorio) who stole his heart at first sight. This joy would be repeated with the birth of his 1st grandson, Kevin Michael Baker Jr. (2002) and Aryston Barker Connell (2007).

Michael was a beloved son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather, and was able to enjoy what many never get a chance to become, a beloved great grandfather (G-Pop) in 2014 to Jayden Joseph Dominick. He took great pride in his daily schedule of driving Jayden to and from school, trips to Dunkin Donuts, and the Dollar Store. Michael fought long enough to be able to meet and hold his 2nd great grandson Hector Jesus Ginorio Jr. before passing away.

Michael will be missed by his beloved dog Lacey who never left his side, family, friends, and the many children that he considered sons, daughters, and grandchildren over the years. He truly believed that you do not need to share a blood line to be considered family and he loved you all very much.

His loving spirit, infectious smile, hard work ethic, and crazy sense of humor will live on in all who knew and loved him. Until we meet again, we love you to the moon and beyond the stars, 20 mullion-sofa love seat and couch….BAY.

Family and Friends are welcome to pay their respects on Saturday, March 26, 2022 from 9:30 am – 11:00 am with a short service following at Faust Funeral Home 902 Bellevue Ave, Hulmeville PA 19047.
