Velia Dean, a Newtown resident, died Tuesday January 25 at the age of 94.  She was born in Philadelphia to Olga (Navone) and Anthony Luzzi and was raised by them in Cornwells Heights, PA.

She attended Bensalem High School and later earned an A.A. In Art from Bucks County Community College.

While at Bensalem H.S. she fell in love with John Dean and they married when he returned from WW II.  He predeceased her in 1999 after 52 years of marriage.  She is survived by her daughter Aurora “Rorie” Dean, son Richard Dean, grandsons Trevor and Matt Hufnagel, and great grandsons Collin and David Hufnagel all of Bucks County, PA.  She is also survived by her daughter in law Elizabeth “Betsy” Belmont, grandson Jesse Dean (wife Rachel S.), granddaughter Rachel Dean, and great grandsons Anthony ”Tony” and Ezra Dean all of Oregon and granddaughter Molly Dean of CA.  She was also predeceased by her son John Anthony “Tony” Dean and great grandson Bryce Dean both of Oregon.

She was an amazing woman of many talents and enjoyed gardening (winning the Bucks Beautiful Garden contest several times), traveling, cooking, and sewing.  She was a founding member of the Bucks County Peace Center. She remained a member of her sketch and book clubs and continued to garden and mow her lawn into her 90s.   She will be missed by her many friends of all ages, neighbors, and extended family.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions in her name be made to American Friends Service Committee, 1501 Cherry Street, Philadelphia, PA 19102.
